CGS was recently commissioned to undertake review of collateral management in Tanzania.
This study was commissioned as part of implementation activities under the Farm Risk Management for Africa – FARMAF Project which is mainly funded by the European Commission (EC) and AGRINATURA (a consortium of European agricultural research and education institutions) was the applicant.
It is being implemented in three African countries, namely: Burkina Faso, Tanzania and Zambia. Mtandao wa Vikundi va Wakulima Tanzania (MVIWATA) is the main partner organization in Tanzania.
The overall objective is to contribute to improving food security and the livelihoods of the rural poor in Africa by enhancing access to and use of effective farm risk management tools (systems, institutions and infrastructure) by smallholder farmers.
Some of the tools to be promoted and made accessible to farmers and other key stakeholders include crop insurance schemes to improve access to agricultural production loans. It will also include interventions to improve efficiency and transparency in agricultural marketing systems.
This project has successfully being undertaken and reports submitted.
